Basics: Denim on Denim

It’s been a minute since I’ve sat down and written a post, with my 24th birthday celebrations last week and a mild case of writer’s block, I didn’t feel comfortable putting out mediocre work considering I wasn’t in the right head space. But here I am, back and ready to unleash fresh content.

Before attempting the infamous denim on denim trend (sorry, Britney and JT), I did some research on how to pull of this look and the common focus turned out to be balance – add a colour block, play with your accessories or switch up the denim. In this look, I decided on a lighter washed denim on top and a darker denim on the bottom and to break it up, a white handbag and printed flats.

The denim shirt is part of the ZARA Woman Premium Denim Collection with the collection curated around everyday essentials balanced between functionality and style. A true testament to that narrative is when I had one of those moments last week where you buy something new and you love it so dearly that you wear it constantly – that was the denim shirt. It’s gentle enough to pull off the denim on denim look and casual enough for day-to-day/weekend wear which meant I could pull on a pair of jeans, slip on a pair of flats and go about my daily life.

This look has to be one of my favourites and it shows how simple executing a daunting trend can be.
